RHS Music Foundation Senior Scholarship
All Reservoir High School Music Department seniors who meet the eligibility requirements below are encouraged to submit applications for the RHS Music Foundation Senior Scholarship.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Reservoir High School Music Department seniors must have participated in their respective music departments during both their junior and senior years in high school. Music departments are defined as Choral and/or Instrumental ensembles listed within this application. Students must plan to enroll as college freshmen (2 or 4 year college) by the fall semester following high school graduation and plan to enroll in at least one music course during the first two years of college.
APPLICATION SUBMISSION:
Completely fill out and submit the Senior Music Scholarship Application Form. The application is a Google Form and requires you to:
Answer questions about your high school music experience
Submit an essay on “How Music Has Affected My Life.” This essay should be no more than two double spaced typewritten pages.
Submit GPA information
In addition, two letters of recommendation are required, one from each of the following:
A high school faculty member familiar with the student’s character and scholastic interests.
The appropriate Music Director.
Students should request recommendation letters in plenty of time for faculty members to submit the letter to MusicFoundationRHS@gmail.com by the due date.
All Music Scholarship Application forms and recommendation letters must be received by midnight on April 30, 2024. Late or partial applications will not be considered.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
The Scholarship Committee will consist of at least three members approved by the Executive Board:
The President or Vice President of the Reservoir High School Music Foundations (or a designee if both are senior parents).
The Scholarship Chairperson, appointed by the Executive Committee.
At least one member At Large.
(No member of the Reservoir High School staff may serve on the Scholarship Committee. A senior parent may serve on the committee only if their child is not applying for the scholarship.)
The Scholarship Committee will review each application to determine that each applicant has met the eligibility requirements and has submitted all of the required supporting documentation. The Scholarship Committee will then evaluate each of the following in making its determination.
The applicant’s level of participation in the Music Department only. (Participation as cast member of musical, sports activities, Honor Roll, Student-of-the-month, etc. will not be considered.)
The applicant’s participation in extracurricular and non-school musical activities
The applicant’s Grade Point Average
The applicant’s letters of recommendation
The applicant’s essay, “How Music Has Affected My Life”
MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT:
Recipients of the Senior Music Scholarship will be announced at the end of the year music banquet.
MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP VERIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND PAYMENT:
After successful completion of the music course taken within the first two years of college, please submit documentation to: Treasurer, Reservoir High School Music Foundation, 11550 Scaggsville Road, Fulton, MD 20759. You can also send the documentation as attachments to treasurer.musicfoundationrhs@gmail.com
Appropriate documentation must include; a copy of the scholarship letter, a copy of the college’s official notification of the grade and credit received, the name to which the check should be written, the address where the check should be mailed, and a phone number or email address in case of questions. A Disbursement Request form may also be used with the documentation attached. Upon verification, reimbursement will be issued.
It is the student recipient’s responsibility to submit the required documentation for reimbursement within the appropriate time frame.
